Overview

Five Mile Radius undertook the architectural and interior design of Abode Ahangama, a 4 bedroom boutique hotel in Ahangama, Sri Lanka. We redesigned the layout of an existing 1950's bungalow adding skylights, openings and courtyards to fit the hotels brief for an environmentally conscious luxury boutique hotel. Interiors and finishes were chosen from local materials, crafts and techniques. Five Mile Radius worked onsite alongside local craftsmen for portions of the project.

As part of this process Five Mile Radius took university students from QUT and Griffith Universities to Sri Lanka where they joined the project as an elective in their university studies.

​

Five Mile Radius has received further funding to take a larger group of 12 students to Sri Lanka in late 2019 to undertake another hospitality project in a neighbouring region.
