Clare Kennedy is a registered architect trained in Australia and London. She had 7 years experience in offices in Brisbane, London, India and the UAE on projects of varying scales and complexities before founding Five Mile Radius in 2015.
Clare has held teaching positions with Kent School of Architecture, The Architectural Association, Bond University and QUT Brisbane. She is the current recipient of the George Alexander Fellowship for research comparing earth construction in arid deserts of the USA with that found in Australia. Clare also sits on the committee of the Earth Building Association of Australia.
Clare’s is particularly fascinated by earth construction. She makes bricks, tiles, plasters by hand using clay, lime and sand. She is equally fascinated by India, travelling there frequently for both work and inspiration.
Thomas is a registered Architect with more than 10 years experience in architecture and construction in Australia. He has been working with his hands for many years with a focus on timber and earth. Through this he has built a valuable knowledge of construction and a love for the hard work, passion and toil that goes into building. This has informed his work with Five Mile Radius.
Thomas has learned from award winning architects and is experienced with home renovations, commercial buildings and multi-story residential buildings.
He received the Deans commendation during his Masters in Architecture and travelled with an international humanitarian competition in Japan looking at rehabilitation of the Tsunami devastated Tohoku region.
