ARUP WORKPLACE

ARUP WORKPLACE

FMR has completed its role as materials consultants for Hassell Studio and Arup on the design of Arup’s new workplace in Brisbane’s CBD. This project showcases a forward-thinking approach to material use, blending sustainable practices with cultural storytelling.

Our work focused on identifying opportunities to reuse existing site materials, reducing waste while celebrating the project's Brisbane context. We advised on locally sourced recycled materials to align with Hassell’s concept design, sourced reclaimed materials, and prototyped solutions that integrated seamlessly into the workplace. To support the project's circular ambitions, we provided detailing advice to ensure future disassembly while also developing material hierarchies based on global best practices to prioritise sustainability and practicality.

Collaborating with Blaklash Creative, we translated cultural themes into a cohesive material language and partnered with Kim Baber to explore undervalued timbers, showcasing their beauty and versatility. Our role extended to material sourcing, design development, fabrication, and providing technical documentation to ensure a seamless and sustainable integration of reclaimed materials. This project reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, culture, and innovation, setting a benchmark for workplace design.

FMR continues to work as material specialists, collaborating with primary consultants on a range of projects. Our expertise spans adaptive reuse, material research, bespoke furniture fabrication, and sustainability consulting, supporting projects that prioritise circular design and long-term adaptability.
