Bulimba Office is an interior project designed and fabricated by Five Mile Radius for innovative lighting company Bluebottle's new Brisbane HQ in Bulimba, Brisbane. The fit-out includes custom workstations, a meeting table, and built-in joinery, all made from waste material and designed for disassembly and reuse. 

The brief called for a locally made, flexible interior that reflected the clients interest in design and craft. We responded with a suite of modular furniture pieces designed for disassembly, mobility, and reuse. All fabrication was completed in-house, pairing steel and timber in expressive, demountable forms.

Central to the design is the reuse of decommissioned 42mm steel fire sprinkler pipe, burnished to retain traces of red paint before being sealed to prevent corrosion. This steel forms the A-frame legs and structural framework of the workstations and joinery with clamp fittings chosen for their ability to be reused in multiple settings.  To span between these frames, packing sheets (typically discarded after protecting laminate deliveries) were salvaged from local joinery workshops and reused as work surfaces. These were finished with recycled Queensland hoop pine (Araucaria cunninghamii) edge detailing for strength and tactility.

The meeting table and stools were made entirely from Queensland-grown hoop pine, following the regional material language and reinforcing the project’s emphasis on local sourcing and fabrication.

The result is a commercial interior that is materially rigorous, unique, and deliberately open to future change. For us, this project stands as a compact yet impactful model of how reuse led construction can deliver both durability and design clarity.
