Northey Street Bathrooms

Architectural design of a new bathroom and public space for Northey Street City Farm. The proposed bathroom sits to the north of the site, creating a clear concourse into the heart of Northey Street City Farm. The positioning of the bathroom ensures it provides amenity to the farm, the market and to Windsor park opposite. This is a highly visible and safe public space, which improves legibility in access to the farm and the nursery.

Wide, clear paths allow for easy access between the nursery, the bathroom and the farm. The increased legibility of this eastern nursery entrance allows for increased exposure to public engagement.

The proposed bathroom is fabricated of recycled steel and crushed masonry construction waste. The aim is to build almost entirely from waste, and to detail, so that each building component can be easily disassembled and reused at the end of its life. This is a case study into designing to suit a circular economy.
