NORTHEY STREET STAGE

NORTHEY STREET STAGE

Following recurrent flooding events, Northey Streets City Farms existing stage was damaged beyond repair. Five Mile Radius was engaged to design a new stage which will act as an important piece of community infrastructure in the heart of the farm. The project acts as a stage, a classroom, a playground, an event space and a quiet space to enjoy the garden.

Complex conditions on site stipulated the stage must open to the west and formally our design uses both vertical and horizontal shading to carefully provide afternoon protection.  The eastern edge is divided into bays with a series of inbuilt bench-seats, operable timber shutters allowing the edge to be closed down during gatherings and events.

The stage is be built from recycled timbers with a number of associated community workshops planned to teach timber recycling during construction. Additionally the large mosaic honed into the terrazzo floor is a planned community artwork with our team providing our waste terrazzo services.

Northey Street is funding the project though a series of Brisbane City Council grants the last of which was secured in early 2022. Construction is intended to commence in Jan 2023.
