TWEED HOUSE WAREHOUSE

TWEED HOUSE WAREHOUSE

Five Mile Radius collaborated with Dan Wilson Architect to transform a standard industrial warehouse in Tweed Heads into a sustainable workplace and logistics hub, constructed almost entirely from local reclaimed materials.

The design embraces a circular approach, using pine stud seconds, recycled hardwood, deadstock plywood, Laminex packing sheets, recycled fire pipe, and factory offcuts of Ampelite polycarbonate. Curtains were made from 100% Australian cotton supplied by Full Circle Fibres, while acoustic panels from Uptex, crafted from compressed textile waste, provided a sustainable solution for sound management.

Working within a strict $50,000 budget and 4-month delivery timeframe, we led material procurement, design detailing, and fabrication — creating modular, disassemblable workstations, partitions, and storage solutions.

The project minimised architectural intervention to maximise material reuse, with over 90% of new works fabricated from salvaged resources sourced from Brisbane and Northern Rivers demolition streams.

Our fabrication strategy prioritised future adaptability: every element was designed for disassembly, reuse, or relocation to ensure long-term circularity. The result is a space that is functional, adaptable, and deeply rooted in sustainable design, showcasing how reclaimed materials can be seamlessly integrated into high-performing, beautiful environments.

"This smart, low-budget warehouse fitout demonstrates how much can be achieved with inventiveness and commitment to a sustainability agenda. By working closely with carpenters and reusing as many elements as possible, the team minimised waste and created a space that feels both efficient and characterful.
Materials were sourced resourcefully, not just to save money but also to support the project’s strong sustainability goals. Everything was chosen with disassembly and reuse in mind. It's a small space with big ideas about how to build better with less."
